Everyone who has learned the linguistics know that the Spanish and French are belong to the Latin language family. On the other hand, maybe you have discover that there are so many resemble words among Spanish ,French and English. A word which has similar meaning in Spanish and English maybe has the similar spelling. For instance, in Spanish, “the university” is called “la universidad” , the spelling of “the professor” is “el profesor”. There are also some resemblances in the grammar between them .

All of us know that the author of book J.K.Rowling usually create some new words from Latin for the curses or some potions. When I read the English edition, though some of those curses can be found some clues that I can look up their meaning(统统石化Petrificus Totalus or呼神护卫Expecto Patronum ) , I can not understand most of them, just guess the use from the context.

Now I have learned Spanish almost one year, recently, when I skimmed through the book, I suddenly understood the meaning of those curses without any dictionary, for example:

1.aguamenti(清水如泉) it means spray water from the wand

In Spanish, “agua” means “water” , so you can see the origin meaning and guess the curse easily .

2.Obliviate(一忘皆空) it is a curse that delete people’s memory

“olvidar” in Spanish means “forget”, obviously, it is not same in the spelling , but we also can understand the use of it .

3. Incendio(火焰熊熊) Making fire spell

Incendiar : a verb which means firing ,there is no need to explain any more

4. Felix Felicis(福灵剂) it is a kind of potion that make you happy , in Hermione’ word ,it’s liquid luck , it makes you lucky !

Feliz in Spanish is ‘happy ‘, so you could say ‘Feliz Navidad’ when it is in Christmas

 5. Morsmordre(尸骨再现) means corpse reappear

  Muerte in Spanish is the meaning of ‘death’,

 Since I am in the first step of Spanish , my quantity of Spanish vocabulary is so limited that I can not know every origin of these curses .And I can not sure whether it is correct (after all, they have a great deal of link) ,but maybe you can consult my way to read the English edition .

都一年了，真快啊，我搬进315一年了呢，呵呵。

在此之前，从没意识到，时间可以这样快的溜走，从最开始进入冰凉凉的宿舍，到现在这么快乐的气氛。我认识了康晓晓，大林还有葛瑜，算上我和陶子，真的很开心阿，我们一起吃涮羊肉，绣十字绣，说着很“瞿”的玩笑，做很“龌龊”的游戏……每次我走进宿舍，看到大家做成一圈，边吃东西边聊天，真是另一种幸福的感受。

我不后悔走进这个宿舍，任何人都需要认识新的人，新的事，不要在还没有遇见之前就先否定它；还有就是，只有你真正关心别人，才能到相应的回报。最大的收获大概还是认识了这么多好朋友。
